Quick Thought

So I know I haven't blogged in awhile. I've totally lost interest. But maybe I'll start up again, and like I said before--make things more personal. But right now I have something really quick to say:

My three besties and myself are all going through issues with our past relationships. I notice that a common thread is that men seem to move on a lot quicker than we do, they give mixed signals, and they do the whole "I'm not going to call or text you back" thing. I feel like the first issue is just a matter of how men are socialized, while the second has to do with a lack of maturity in certain men (or should I say "boys" lol). But the third issue is one that for some reason really strikes a chord with me. If someone calls, texts, or facebook/aim messages you, have the decency to reply and just give a reason for you no longer wanting to talk, or whatever the case. I mean let's be real.....we know you aren't doing anything in your pathetic life and at least have the courtesy to reply after I took the time out in my busy schedule to hit you and ask how you were doing. I mean really.....

Peeved

I get peeved/annoyed/irritated quite easily. It's a terrible personality trait and something that I'm working on for my own sake and for others. But I'm a work in progress and when multiple things annoy me at once, sometimes I just can't deal with it.

Anywhoo, I have a friend who is being a jerk right now. Won't call me back, acts like they're busy all the time, can't find the time to AIM or text. People like that annoy the hell outta me. No one is busy all the time like that. If somebody's your friend, you'll make time for them. Simple as that. It doesn't take much. A text message saying, "I'm sorry. I have a lot of stuff going on. I'll hit you this weekend" would suffice. But no. They wanna act like they're Barack Obama and have real stuff on their agenda.

If someone calls to ask how YOU are, don't be a jerk and act like you're too busy to call them back. Just as easily as I called you, I can just as easily stop calling you. Everyone has stuff to do--work, school, getting their life together--you're not the only one. It's hard to believe that a 5-minute conversation is a huge sacrifice of your time. But if it is, so be it. It's time for the annual "spring cleaning" of names and numbers from my phone and you will be at the top of my list.

Your Ignorance Is My Entertainment

I make it a point to never talk about what I don't know about or give advice in an area that I have no knowledge of. For example, I never give relationship advice. I haven't been in a relationship in a long time, and the one that I was in wasn't that great. Who am I to be giving advice?

Anywhoo.....people LOVE giving me advice and sharing their thoughts about why I'm still single. I always get the standard: you have to be secure, content, and love yourself before you can be in a relationship with someone else. Okay, great advice but why is it always the people who are in co-dependent/wack relationships always giving the advice? I'm a need you look in the mirror! LOL

So I'm sitting at my computer this afternoon....checking other people's blogs, downloading music, and procrastinating on this paper I have to write. I decided to AIM an old acquaintance just to say wassup? what's good?

Lol. I keep forgetting that this is the "Philosophical Twit." You know the type...thinks they are the urban present-day Socrates/Confucius but really are just saying a whole lot of nothin? This fool acted like he was giving me awe-inspiring advice and "wisdom" and wanted to "teach" me something. PLEASE. Gimme a break...The sad thing is I can't even recollect what he said! His ignorance was pure entertainment for the first five minutes. But getting down to others' intellect level is tiring....I had to cut that conversation short!

I think people have the misunderstanding that when you're seeking a relationship, something is wrong with you. You're insecure with yourself or looking for someone to complete you. If that were the case, wouldn't I be one of those people who constantly hopped from relationship to relationship? Always needing a boyfriend? Getting with one, to get over another? I know quite a few people like that.....and they be the main people giving me advice!

Long story short:
(1) If you're a dummy--don't talk to me.
(2) Don't talk about what you don't know about.
(3) Look at yourself in the mirror before you give advice.

That is all.

Living Single

I am living single. I don't want to be single, but honestly, there is a lack of high-quality men. I want to find that special someone, the man of my dreams, my knight in shining armor, my Barack--okay who am I kidding? I'm looking for anyone who wants to be with me and will treat me right! (and a couple other things). To me that's not asking for too much, but it's been extremely difficult to find a man...

I go to a Jesuit Catholic university. The men here are either a) in a relationship, b) in the seminary, c) gay, d) or a combination or all of the above :D
I want a man with a college education, a stable job, and no kids. Most of those men have already been snatched up! Pickin's are slim.
I go to places where I think a man that's my type would be hanging out--the library, the local cafe, etc. Nope! No black men to be found! I'm in college, starting to apply for graduate school, and I would love to find a man who could be my significant other. One who not only stimulates me physically, but intellectually. Most of these guys can't even say a sentence in proper English--let alone hold a conversation! Perhaps I am asking for too much...

In the past I have settled. Settled for men I should have passed up on first glance. I remember I was with this guy and he told me one day that I "wasn't on his level." I spent almost five years of my life trying to prove to him that I was. Then I realized one day that he was right all along. I wasn't on his level! Never again will I settle for someone so beneath me.

I am living single. I know what I want and I know what I don't want. I want someone on my level, who has goals and a path for his life. To me that's not asking for too much. I don't need a man to complete me--I need someone to compliment my swag! Someone with panache!
